After many years of living in Tuscany, we have moved to the very beautiful département of Aveyron
in SW France. We are now within the newly re-organised region of Occitanie; Midi-Pyrenées, Languedoc
There are many similarities in country life to Tuscany, but with less stable weather! This area is known as
"La France profonde" because it was a relatively unknown département until recent years. The spectacular Millau bridge was opened in 2004 to connect this very untouched region to major motorway routes in France, with a very good connection to Montpellier which is just over two hours away now.
I always love to paint "en plein air", since it's not just the challenging outdoor experience of trying to get the visual experience down on paper or canvas, but there are a myriad of other wonderful things going on around me while I'm working outside.
Wild-life has no fear of me, while I am quietly painting and the light changes from one beauty to another.
I often come across surprisingly nice people while I'm out painting in a field.
On miserable days, or in the bitter cold, my studio is a very welcome haven, warmed by my wood-burning stove and wonderful music, or else pleasant silence. On those winter days I love arranging still-life and working on larger canvases based on ideas that I have gathered in the summer.
EXHIBITION ... I am sharing an exhibition, at the end of November 2019, with a good friend who is a wonderful printmaker. We are showing in a private space in Villefranche de Rouergue for just three days 28, 29 and 30 November.
